Default Mayweather vs Pacquiao feud.. Who is wrong?

Mayweather vs Pacquiao fued.. Who is wrong?

It seems this fight is STUCK on one item -- the drug testing protocol to be used for the bout.

Mayweather has insisted on random urine and blood testing for both fighters by an independant drug testing agency.
Mayweather wants olympic style drug testing for himself and Pac-man.

Pacquiao has agreed to random unlimited urine testing, But does not want random blood testing.

Pacquiao is saying he will only take three blood tests: One in early January around the time of the kickoff news conference, one randomly up to 30 days before the fight and one in the dressing room after the fight.

Pacquiao says he will not agree to take a blood test in the 30 days before the fight.

Boxing: Pacquiao sues Mayweather for defamation

LAS VEGAS, Nevada: Manny Pacquiao is fighting mad, and taking on Floyd Mayweather jnr in court even as a potential blockbuster bout between the two is on the ropes.

Filipino hero Pacquiao filed a lawsuit in federal court in Las Vegas on Wednesday alleging that Mayweather and others defamed him by falsely saying Pacquiao used performance-enhancing drugs.

"Calling a professional athlete a cheater is the most serious charge one can make," the lawsuit says, "and in today's world, accusing an athlete of using performance-enhancing drugs - however baseless and lacking in evidence - is toxic."

Pacquiao has been angered by the Mayweather camp's insistence on doping control blood tests in the buildup to their welterweight showdown - a demand that has the March 13 fight in doubt.

Mayweather has said the blood tests, which could detect substances not found by urine tests, are vital to ensure a fair fight, although blood tests are not routinely used in boxing.

Pacquiao - who says he fears having blood drawn less than 30 days before the fight would 'weaken' him - has taken exception to the demand and to comments made by the Mayweather camp in media interviews.

His lawsuit asks for damages in excess of US$75,000 and names Mayweather, his father, Floyd snr, and uncle Roger Mayweather as defendants. Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer, who operate Golden Boy Promotions and are promoting Mayweather, are also named as having "stated publicly that Pacquiao has used and is using performance-enhancing drugs, including steroids."

The lawsuit cites several interviews given by the Mayweather camp, including the unbeaten US boxer's comments in a radio interview in October about Pacquiao's physical development, when he said: "cause we know the Philippines got the best enhancing drugs."

Also quoted in the suit were Mayweather's remarks published in the british newspaper The Guardian, in which Mayweather said he had "great doubt as to the level of fairness I would be facing in the ring that night."

"The truth did not stop Mayweather and the others," the suit alleges. "That is because they are motivated by ill will, spite, malice, revenge and envy."

Pacquiao, who has supplanted Mayweather in the estimation of many as boxing's best pound-for-pound fighter, has earned titles in seven weight classes.

Their fight could bring each as much as US$40 million, and it had appeared to be virtually set after squabbles were settled over issues including the division of the purse and the type of gloves to be used.

The dope test procedures, however, have proved a sticking point.

The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum is preparing to open negotiations with World Boxing Association super welterweight champion Yuri Foreman as talks with Mayweather falter.

Arum, contacted by the newspaper while on vacation in Mexico, sounded pessimistic that Pacquaio-Mayweather would happen on March 13.

"This is only my opinion, but I don't see the fight happening now," he told the Times. "Positions are hardening ... Manny's fit to be tied. He's very angry."

Arum acknowledged there could still be a breakthrough, but said: "It might be best to visit this fight later in 2010."

I have no idea who is right and who is wrong here. I can see the point made by both guys. But whatever happens, this is just another example of how bad the sport of boxing has become. IMO

    yep.

    In my opinion,
If this fight is cancelled, its all Pacquiao's fault.

If theres nothing to hide, then he should just take the damn test.

But could there be something to hide? who knows.

It certainly is suspisious that he will not take a blood test right before the fight.
I first heard that he has a phobia of needles.
That seemed like a valid answer until I noticed all the tattoos all over his body. So the scared of needles/needles against religion stance doesnt hold water to me seeing that he has a bunch of tattoos.

Another story I heard was that the taking of blood before the fight will somehow drain him physically.
That sounded legit until I discovered that they only take a tablespoon or two.
Not enough to drain you whatsoever.
So I dont buy that one either.

So I don't know of any excuse anymore that makes sense to me other than that he is scared to test positive.
This may sound irrational to think he might be juicing, but many top rank fighters have been caught doing steroids. Like sugar shane mosley, and some others.
So I can see mayweather wanting to insist on full random testing done by an independant company.

I just don't see someone as buisness minded as Pac-man turning away from the biggest pay-day of his life due to a little schoolyard disagreement.
Anyone with any buisness sense in his position would just take the test and do the fight.
That is... unless he is worried he will test positive.

    who knows.

You may be right, I've heard all kinds of things. ESPN had an article the other day about how Mayweather Sr. was calling out Pacman saying he's been doping and Pacquiao said that he had never done it and that they are trying to get in his head before the fight, playing a mental game. So who knows if he's really doping or if he's not wanting to give in to Mayweather demands because they are both playing games. But boxing needs to do something, this is potentially one of the biggest fights in who knows how long, 10...15 years if you ask me. The Mayweather/de la hoya fight was trash. IMO!!

Due to the problem with performance enhancing drugs in the sports arena, I find it strange that the fighters and their camps are dictating drug testing rules. I think all professional boxers should adhere to a set of rules of drug testing, before and after the boxing match. Why not adopt a similiar set of guidelines to test the boxers. If there are guidelines already established, then this would eliminate any type of arguement pertaining to drug testing. The boxers either follow the drug testing rules or he doesn't fight.

I gotta put this on Pacquiao. Him not wanting to take blood testing really makes me question the man's whole career. I hate to say it, but in this day and age of PED's...when someone refuses to test I have to question.

    exactly.
What could clear his name and shut mayweather up faster than just TAKING THE DAMN TEST.
When/if he tests clean, he will have proved his point and made mayweather look dumb.
We are talking multi-million dollar deals here.
To think that either of them would choose not to do this fight over mind games or stupid little testing method disagreements is crazy.

If pac-man telling the truth, he loses nothing and gains all his dignity.
If he test negative, he loses everything. All his belts.

The fact that he is INSISTING on not being tested tells me something is going on here.
And him suing mayweather for "defamation of character" is ridiculous and makes him look even more guilty.
He defamated his own character when he refused to take a drug test that would prove his own innocence.

You know Chad....Boxing has been hurting for awhile. It has been eclipsed by MMA. Now personally I prefer Boxing to MMA by a large margin. Boxing needs this fight. It needs big fights like this. A certain part of me wonders if this isn't all just part of the show. All just a big bunch of bullshit conjured up to get the public talking. Just to build the hype.

All you guys have some really good points here....I agree with Bravestime that when do fighters get to decide the drug testing policies. And I think you guys are right.... this is all something being done to hype this thing up.

Seems Dana White agrees with us too...

“What, fighters decide what fighters are going to do? That’s what the commission is there for,” commented White. “The athletic commission is there for the safety of the fighters. They drug test, they blood test, they do all those other things. For another fighter to be calling out another fighter for some type of blood work is f------ crazy. Just f------ train for the fight and fight; that’s what everybody wants to see. I want to see this fight. I’m dying to see this fight.”
    Dana White chimes in

    Dana White chimes in
    Well,
With all respect to Dana white, This is not UFC and things are a little different.
This is two different camps and promoting groups trying to reach an agreement. Not a fight in the UFC where dana white owns both fighters and "lets the commission handle it".

Fights like this have agreed upon negotiations and one person/company doesnt get the final say. there has to be an agreement.

If Mayweather wants to be certain that Pacquio is not using steroids, then I think this is fair
Its not like Mayweather is wanting Manny to take any test that he himself is not willing to take.

Danas whole "let the commision handle it" arguement has one flaw.
And thats the fact that they will only test urine. They only test blood if there is specific cause to do so.
I am sure this has came out in Dana whites favor a few times with Brock Lesnar's steriod problem.

Dana probably doesn't want blood tests to become regular expectations for fights because he might lose his WWE Wrastler steroid champion. lol.

Certain substances can be undetected in urine samples and only detected in blood.
This is where mayweather is coming from.
And the fact that pac-man is refusing to take a simple test draws even more questions now.

    In my opinion,
I dont think its gonna matter anyway.
Mayweather is going to make Manny look bad just like marquez.
My guess would be 12 round decision to Mayweather. Pacquio may win 1 or two rounds if hes lucky.
Mayweather will start a little slow feeling manny out, then start throwing those spring-forward left hooks and then get out before pac-man can do anything.
Mayweather will paint his face with strong jabs all night.
Around round 7, here comes mayweathers lead right hands. Once those start, its all over.
The punch stats will all lean heavily toward mayweather.

The one chance Manny has is to go AFTER HIM IMMEDIATLY from the opening bell and cut that ring off and smother him.
If mayweather sucks pacquio into a technical fight or "thinking mans game", its all over for manny.
You cant out think mayweather or out-box him. The guys been using boxing gloves since he was a toddler. He is like a tiger woods of boxing. Its like breathing to him.

but if manny can keep himself from trying to out-box mayweather or to battle him technically, he may have a strong chance.
He will have to pour it on like he naver has before and keep doing it until he catches floyd.
But we still need to remember that floyd is a monster at this weight.
He's bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter.
Pac-man must beat him with heart. (or steroids) lol.joke.

I think the point is to get drug testing method for boxing out of the hands of the fighters and in a neutral party. A party that can enforce it and be completely consistent from one fight to the next. I see no reason for fighters to request additional or altering a drug testing policy. The drug testing policy should be fabricated by the Boxing Commission and should include the best possible drug testing to catch any enhanced drug violations. If the testing is done right, then no altering of the program should be required.

    i agree.

This is exactly what Floyd Mayweather is trying to do.

He is wanting the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to conduct the independant testing.
This third-party testing agency is more effective and stricter than the boxing commision.
This is the exact drug testing system that they use in the olympics.

Current Nevada boxing commision doesnt do extensive testing.
They are very relaxed. No blood tests.

The olympics (USADA) use extensive blood and urine tests to ensure that no performance enhansing drugs are used.

This is a good thing for both partys and is exactly what is called for when determining the pound-for-pound boxing champion of the world IMO.

Manny needs to either stop being unprofessional or kick the roids.

I think thats a pretty much spot on assessment of how the fight would go Chad. As good a fighter as Pacquiao is i don't believe he could beat Mayweather. Floyd is a real class act and i believe he would outbox Pacquiao without too much trouble.

It's not a matter of him refusing testing, its a matter of him not agreeing to going above and beyond the RULES. I would not agree either, because if you don't like the rules, then try and change them. I think Floyd's a little girl, and this is just more of that. I hope he mans up and takes Pacman, so he and his dirtbag uncle and dad can lose a fight. I hate the guy.

According to Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Mayweather, Pacquiao refused Tuesday to agree to the Olympic-style drug testing procedures the sides had been negotiating.

"Mayweather requested that the drug testing for the fight be in compliance with the United States Anti-Doping Agency, which handles testing for Olympians, "to ensure fair play and sportsmanship by both fighters."

"We're going in a different direction," Arum told the Grand Rapids newspaper. "What I believe is that Floyd never really wanted the fight and this is just harassment of Pacquiao.

"We appeased Mayweather by agreeing to a urine analysis at any time, and blood testing before the press conference and after the fight. Mayweather pressed for blood testing even up to the weigh-in. He knew that Manny gets freaked out when his blood gets taken, and feels that it weakens him. This is just harassment and, to me, just signaled that he didn't want the fight."

Olympic style testing is more rigorous than the drug testing performed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and other state commissions. It would involve random blood and urine testing before and after the fight. Nevada commission testing only tests urine for banned substances, once just before the fight and once immediately following the fight.
Pacman gave in for a little above and beyond the rules, but Floyd wants it all. It's just a mind game that he likes to play, just like staying in his dressing room longer than needed last night. Until he fights Pacman, he gets no respect from me. I find it funny all the people here that think he's hiding something.

I think Floyd's unbeaten streak means more to him than anything, and he'll do what he has to to protect it, even if it means ludicrous reasons for not taking the fight a real man would.

Mayweather's lawyer, Richard Wright, denied Mayweather was guilty of the criminal charges based on allegations by Josie Harris.

"He did not commit any grand larceny," Wright told The Associated Press. "Josie can't find her iPhone. We're attempting to find it or replace it. We'll cooperate in the investigation. We expect to get the matter resolved." An iPhone typically costs less than $500.
