Default I1 Pro profiled to C5 question

I have a I1 Pro and a C5 after profiling the C5 agrees very closely with the I1 Pro in all aspects except luminance readings.

Tom Huffman said he would trust the C5 over the I1 Pro for luminance readings given the I1 Pro’s real strength is accurate color readings.

I am curious what others who have both meters experienced and what your opinion is.

    Thanks!

    Tom really likes the C5

I would be interested to know as well, my i1pro just showed up today so I am looking forward to using it. When you did the offset measurements how much off was the luminance between the 2? It certainly seems to be popular opinion that C5 is better at lower luminance levels correct? Perhaps this is telling of overall luminance performance...

Go with the C5 for all measurements once profiled. The Pro won't be accurate at 10 & 20 IRE so keep your readings consistent by not switching meters. I used a C5 for GS/Gamma and an i1Pro for CMS for awhile but Tom Huffman convinced me otherwise. Use the Pro as reference and then put it away.

I am leaning towards using the C5 Profiled but I thought the light output level differences were surprising since I thought the I1 Pro was very accurate at all but low levels.

Just FYI. The C5 Profiled reads a Y value of 32.71fl on a 100% white pattern and the I1 Pro reads 35.221fl on the same pattern.

Same here. Check out the big Y difference in the bottom section.

    Cool spreadsheet!

Your results look the same as mine which makes me feel better about the 2 meters.

I think I will stick with profiling the C5 against the I1 for everything a person could drive themselves crazy worrying about the differences lol.

I have a lot of confidence in the C5 and because it profiles so well, as a non-pro enthusiast calibrator, I see no reason to send it in every year.

Are any of you guys using a C5 without the offsets in the license in CP? That is just the meter lic for the c5 and then setting your own offsets based on the i1pro with your gear? Thought here is if the i1pro is accurate why not use it to create ref offsets with your gear instead of Tom's ref equipment? I am told C5 is very accurate out of the box...

The C5 Pro is great and if it’s all you can get I think it is a good choice but unfortunately Tom cannot provide a custom offset for every display in existence.

I have found my C5 using Tom’s Samsung LED LCD offset is very close to my I1 pro except for the colors of Blue and Green on one Samsung LED TV and agrees perfectly on another Samsung LED TV.

Due to the variation in displays even among the same manufacturer I would definitely profile my C5 against the I1 pro on the display in question if I had the option and wanted to use the C5 on that display.

If I had it all to do again I would not have bought the C5 Pro and bought the I1 Pro and a regular C5.

I am going to measure a few different ways:

    Baseline:
    1. C5 pro w/ CP offsets in license
    2. C5 pro w/ CP no offsets in license
    3. i1pro w/CP

    Comparisons:
    1. C5 pro w/ CP offsets in license + i1pro
    2. C5 pro w/ CP no offsets in license + i1pro

Which do you think will result in the closest match between readings?

Absolutely. Considering the combined use of these two meters there is no substitute for profiling from the i1Pro and using the C5 on every calibration.
