Lightbulb New Competition for the Ipad. the Android powered WEpad

Android powered device to compete with the Ipad.
Released by German company, Neofonie, The WEpad touts an 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 multitouch capable display, a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 Pineview-M processor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, two USB 2.0 ports, and a lithium ion battery that is said to be able to offer up to 6 hours of run time. Other features include a memory card reader, audio output, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, stereo speakers and Flash and Adobe AIR support.
In terms of the different models, you will have the option to choose either the Wi-Fi only model with 16GB of internal storage, or step up to the 3G equipped model that will also come with GPS and 32GB of internal storage. Additionally, the WePad will also come touting HDMI out as well as a Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator for 1080p video playback.

Unfortunatly, it looks like they will be limited to germany for the time being, hopefully they will be a hit and expand their market for people interested in an Android powered device.

Did you hear what Sarah Palin thought about the iPad?

She said it wasn't very absorbent.

There's no reason to pay for Microsoft software, unless it comes in a neon green box.

I dunno, I just like the Android OS. don't have to pay for the SDK or wait on the jobs jury to decide if your apps are worthy.

Oh, and i can take my battery out.

    Ahh, ye big show-off.

(Still can't get over the fact that Apple won't let people swap out their own batteries, for Pete's sake...)

    X2.

It really makes Apple devices seem like majorly software restricted, overpriced nonsense. (which they pretty much are)

    Hi BLT,

Not true. Eventually, that battery will die altogether and require replacement. At that time, the ability to swap it out oneself will be a neat "feature" to have and I suspect you will miss it. Now, I do not say this gives sufficient reason to avoid the iPad, but I do consider it inexcusable that Jobs and Apple set it up this way.

    Yours,

    David
