Question Which is the better Planet Earth Version?

I was wondering which version of Planet Earth is better, the Sigourney Weaver or David Attenborough?

I was looking at the Attenborough to buy. Thanks

The main reason though isn't the narration, it's that the Weaver version is cut (about an hour and a half total) and more importantly, the PQ isn't nearly as good.

Thanks guys. I was thinking the Attenborough was, but just couldn't remember for sure. Saw this again on Dish HD Discovery (weaver version) and it was awesome. Never did get the Planet Earth in either format, but looks like I'm going to have to now. I always heard this was THE or one of the Best PQ out there for either formats!

    Thanks again.

The Aus version is the best.

I thought it was done by the BBC?

At any rate, Attenborough gets my vote too.

Most definitely Attenborough, and from all the research I've done, that seems to be the majority. (and the version I bought)

I just got the Attenbourough blu version. Outstanding. Just amazing. And, somehow, his voice lends to the dramatics on some scenes.

I thought Sigourney Weaver's voice was easier to listen to on TV. Attenborough's voice was muddled under the background sound on my HD DVD. Made it hard to hear what he was saying.
An hour and a half cut on the Weaver version? That is not good. What format is that?

Yeah, I thought Weaver did a real good job narrating Planet Earth. She has a smooth voice to listen to. Her voice kinda flowed with the scene. Very well done. Never actually seen the Attenborough version, but I'll be buying it anyway. Too many recommendations for it to avoid that version.

    Thanks again guys.

Yes, but the Aus version has more features than both the US and UK, and it has the better Attenborough commentary.

I had no issues with her voice at all. I enjoyed her voice. I just remembering reading that everyone thought the BD version with Attenborugh was better, so that's what I went with.

The HD DVD version has Attenborough narration as well.
So can someone tell me where the Weaver version is? Is it standard DVD. Only place I have heard Weaver is on TV.

    The Discovery Channel version.

Attenborough is on the BBC release.

Both versions were released on BD, HD DVD and DVD.

Suckers bought the Discovery channel version.

What features does it have over the UK version? I know the UK version has an extra disc for special features not present in the US version.

Either way... Attenborough is the ONLY narrator for nature documentaries.

You can pick up the UK Blu-ray Planet Earth for around £24.99 + shipping on amazon.co.uk now (don't forget to less 15% as non EU citizens don't pay VAT).

Mike, see this post by HTPCFreak from an Australian forum:

Okay, these I think are the various versions available:

    1. DVD, 5 discs, BBC version: original David Attenborough narration, 5th disc contains "Planet Earth: The Future"

    2. Blu-ray/HD DVD, 4 discs, Discovery Channel version: Sigourney Weaver narration, only sold by Discovery.com, 50 minutes cut footage, but I think features some more extra features on the making of Planet Earth

    3. Blu-ray/HD DVD, 4 discs, BBC version: original David Attenborough narration, sold in most places in the US (eg. Amazon.com), no cut footage

    4. Blu-ray/HD DVD, 5 discs, BBC version: original David Attenborough narration, sold in Europe/Australia, no cut footage, 5th discs contains two additional documentaries from BBC's "Natural World" series: "Desert Lions" and "Snow Leopards"

Good info Darren! Yes, the one with Attenborough from BBC is the best looking one and I prefer his voice over Weaver. But I enjoy both narators actually.
