Lightbulb Recommend me an LCD please

Hello everyone - I'm happy with my VT30 in the family room but for the living room I'd like to mount an LCD on the wall, most likely above the fireplace (that doesn't get used). I'd like to try something different than a plasma just to see what LCD has to offer and here are my restrictions and needs:

    - Has to mount to wall and have good input configs (nothing going outward toward wall or anything)

    - Would prefer LED but am agnostic about back-lit or side-lit. I'd prolly prefer back-lit if it's better.

    - We'd prefer 42" (although I'd like a 46.. I'm being told 42" is max for this room hehe) although 46 not out of question..

    - My woman will be using it for watching aerobic stuff, Comcast HGTV and other BS and the retarded Wii

    - I'll be using it for gaming PS3 and 360 so it can't suck balls with lag

    - Price isn't really a concern as long as Video Only sells it (and they sell everything video)

    - I would appreciate 24P (might watch a bdr or two) but don't need 3D at all

    - All I can think of for now but may edit and add!

Id look hard at an IPS panel like Panny and LG. Im not very impressed with the new Samsungs, but Sharp shows promise. Sony is also like Panny, usually a little overpriced but a great overall display. I spent $500 on a 32" Panny in 2009, and still love that LCD today.

No problem, I've posted a few reviews of newer panels in the lcd review forum.

Right now I am sitting on the Sony LED/LCD 40"EX720 Edge lit. Its a great TV for gaming it is also a fairly dark TV. There is some flashlighting in the lower left corner. It is very odd how similar it looks like the EX500 regular LCD. Which by the way delivers great PQ when calibrated.
I also have the LCD/LED Sharp 40"LE 835LU and the LCD/LED Panasonic 37"DT30. These TVs are so similar. I haven't done any lag input tests on them. But both respond very well to console (Xbox 360)gaming. There is some back light bleeding on them. However the pictures are extremely vivid(rich with color) and great looking. If you looking to drop some money by all means I would go for it.
Another out would be try a Sony EX500 40"(LCD) This TV is awesome when calibrated. I have 32EX500. I cant get over how it good looks and also costs the least out of all of them(EX 500 series).

All of these TVs have some flashlighting or edge lit bleeding. The sony's seem to have the best darks when turning down the back light to minimize the flashlighting.
You can also minimize the backlight bleeding on the Sharp and Pani DT30. Not sure if its the glossy screen on these TVs bring out the back light bleeding more. As I said the pictures are much more vivid and brighter. Also the pani has the Alpha panel, which in theory should minimize input lag for gaming. You can see alot of the screen flaws in a dark room with the Sharp and the Pani. The Sony EX720 on the other hand has 2 game modes, a IP settings option for picture Quality or panel Speed. This Tv also enables you to set your hdmi settings for 1080p 1080i and 720p etc. for fixed or automated settings. Sorry, I couldn't get you numbers for lag testing, as I dont have the software or the PC monitor to conduct such tests. I have been looking at all of these TVs for mostly all the same reasons. The Sony LEDs are much different from the Sharp or the Pani. Dont be fooled by the vivid screens on the Pani and the Sharp the Sony delivers excellent picture as well, just let your eyes adjust.

As far as sound goes. The pani the Sharp and the Sony EX500 all have decent sounding speakers (you can hear bass or lows). The Sony EX720 does not. The EX720 sounds like a clock radio.

Oh another thing. In light of all the reading I have done. I believe the LEDs have really turned the corner this year on the topic of input lag. Now I dont have solid numbers, however the ones mentioned here all worked well. I also recommend checking on input lag under LCDs on AVS. I believe you'll find there isnt alot of information on the topic of input lag. I have been looking into this topic for sometime. I play alot of first person shooters where milliseconds matter. Any who enough of my ranting. Happy hunting.

I have a 55" Sony EX710 as a result of a trade-in for my old SXRD rear projection set. I have been very impressed with this set. There is a bit of nonuniformity (the right edge is ever so slightly lighter than the rest when viewed sitting to the left of screen center) but I would go so far as to say there is no flashlighting. Having returned a Samsung LED TV a couple of years ago because I found the flashlighting totally distracting, this has been a very pleasant surprise.

The black level seems quite good to me and the set looks great both in a brightly lit room with glare from windows directly opposite it and in total darkness. Our main uses are movies (probably 75% Blu-Ray) and gaming on the PS3.

Honestly, had I not been offered this set as a replacement for the SXRD set, the videophile snob side of me might have only looked at the higher models. That would have been a mistake. I may have lucked out on a particularly good sample but I am extremely happy with this TV.

Some of the (CC) User Reviews weren't so great (just 10 to go off of though), but, they do Offer 1-4 yr Warranties (from $170/1-yr, $190/2-yr, $280/3-yr, $345/4-yr), so IF/When I get a new Job, this one might be an option. Of course, it'd be smart to get one of the Warranties, as this IS a "Refurb" model, so the most I'd go is 2-years for $190. Which is really like $90 after you mail in the $100 Rebate after paying $1199.99 for the TV anyway

*** EDIT: HERE is a page from the listing on "Amazon" showing (Mostly Positive) Customer Reviews. ***

Soooo, Anyone have thoughts on this, Pro OR Con. I welcome Any/All insight. Thanks in advance.
