Monoprice

***I apologize if this is in the wrong section but I didn't see a section dedicated to cabling***

I am currently retuning my living room. Wall mounting the TV etc...

This is going to involve new cabling to reach different distances. I was curious about Monoprice. It seems a lot of people use them, their HDMI cables are, well, VERY affordable. But they are generic cables. Being a noob, do people think there is a huge difference between the generic and the "name brand" cables?

Monoprice is offering the length I need, high speed etc...

I am thinking about replacing every cable in my system with a giant order from them given the affordability but was wondering about what the "experts" here thought.

You are doing the right thing by purchasing all from Monoprice. Quality is very, very good. You will not notice one bit of difference from MP cables compared to Best Buy's high dollar stuff. I've had both and absolutely zero difference except that I felt robbed once I figured it out.

Hi chemical360,

There is no appreciable difference. Since I first discovered Monoprice years ago, I have never paid those normal, very high retail prices for HDMI cables or for any other cables or connectors. There's just no reason for it.

Excellent!!! Thanks a lot guys for those posts. I am about to place a fairly big order from them right now. I honestly cannot believe I didn't research this months ago. I guess Best Buy had me fooled... So glad I found sites such as these.

I am saving thousands of dollars everyday.

You can't go wrong with Monoprice...I've saved a bundle over what I used to pay for them at other places...and they have so many options...quality doesn't have to be expensive..

Same here. Funny thing is - I typically buy HDMI cables by the half dozen..just because they're cheap. I've had only 1 stop working in the last 5 years from MONO. On the other hand, I've also had a high dollar Rocket whatever brand stop working from BB. So, the way I see it - I'm going Monoprice.

I had HDMI cables the cable company gave me they performed well but then bought Phillips HDMI and there was no comparison Phillips was the best.

I have purchase hundreds of cables from monoprice and not 1 failure...

I was close to NOT buying an HDTV 6 years ago because I thought I was going to pay an additional $200-300 for an HDMI cable, then I found monoprice. Now I laugh whenever I walk into a big box store and still see these cables for $50+

I use Monoprice as well for my HDMI and never had any failures. Though I am curious as to when it's proper to use the Ferrite core HDMI vs the non-Ferrite. I read somewhere that the Ferrite cores will prevent interference issues and recently switched all my non-Ferrite ones out just to be safe.

It's always better to be safe by using the ferrite core cables then be sorry by not using them and having some kind of interference.

I used to buy monster cables..until they ruined one of my inputs on my TV...they fit too tight and when I tried to remove the cable it took the whole inside of my TV input with it

..then I discovered monoprice and have never looked back...

I feel ashamed now what I used to pay for some of those cables...long before HDMI came along..

Esoteric cables of any kind are all B.S. I have been in this field for many years and heard all of the claims and proven it not to make a difference as long as some simple guidelines are followed concerning gauge (analog cables). Snake oil salesmen use smoke and mirrors to convince the naive who then think they are professionals and know more than empirical data proves by fact...And there you have it.
