Thread: NEED HELP WITH CABLE BOX

I need help with my cable box i have a scientific altanta HD box.i wont be puting my plasma in the den. because my mom thinks its to big lol .now its going in my room and the tv and stand will be in front of my bed
and the shelfs are lower then the bed and the single for the cable box.dont work i need to hold up the remote and point down lol.this happen before and i built a side shelf i dont wanna put this shelfon the side of a 300 tv stand .my cousin has his cable box hide & it has some kind device its a wire with a blue tip and it goes
to the cable box what is the name of this thing and where can i buy it & he is able to tun off the tv and switch channels and all that stuff.he called it a eye?? if i get a harmony remote will i have this same problem

You will need to research if this will work with your specific cable box, but I believe that you're looking for an IR extender like this.

If you have a Scientific Atlanta 4240HDC, the brochure for that set top box shows the following part numbers;

I didn't buy it. Time Warner Cable loan it to me as long as I'm paying for service. Other than intermittent audio dropouts, it seems pretty solid.

I don't believe that the emitter is what you're looking for, I believe you need the receiver for what you're trying to accomplish.

You need the emitter, receiver and power supply. They work together to do the job. Receiver takes the signal, the emitter sticks over the cable box IR eye (its receiver). Some equipment doesn't need emitters as it can use a stereo cord, but my cable box does not. My Yamaha receiver does.

Correct me if I'm wrong, especially since I have not personally done this, but can't you just get a single cable, an IR receiver on a wire then plug that into the back of the cable box? Like this? Or is that actually incorporating the emitter, receiver and power supply?

Well, I don't know if you have the connection on the rear of the cable box for the receiver to transmit. You may, but the Dinky Link comes with 4 emitter, one receiver and a power supply. That's all you need. You put the emitters over the IR receivers on whatever equipment you want to control using the self sticking pad. Then you place the receiver where you want to aim for it all. You then plug the wires from the emitters and the receiver into the power supply. Very simple. its a piece of cake. If you have that connection on the STB, you just replace the emitter with the audio type cable.

thanks ckone180. i have a small jack that looks like a small ear phone in put that says IR on it. and i also have a usb on he back of the box.this is what iam thinking
if the jack says IR then i can put something with an eye on it and it should work

Monoprice is probably the best bet. Dinky Link is usually sold online, but is considerably more than $15 because it comes with the supllies to connect 3-5 pieces of equipment.

That will work, and comes with 4 connectors. Good find!
