I need a universal remote..............

Please help me. I just want a remote that will control my tv, satellite receiver, and blu-ray player. I've checked out the Logitech line, URC, and many others. I'm thinking of the Harmony One, but an internet connection is needed and mine is painfully slow(dial up). Next there is the URC digital R50 which has a programming wizard in the remote itself so no computer is necessary. The only thing I'm worried about with the R50 is it may not have a code for my Blu-ray player wherein the Harmony One does.

If this sounds like I've narrowed the choice to the two I've mentioned, you're probably right, but I get a little confused when they talk about activities, devices, macros and the whole shebang.

I'm not a techie wizard so anything real easy will be good for me.

Here is a list of what I want to control:

Panny TC-P50V10
Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray
Dish Network VIP211k Satellite receiver

BTW, the R50 is $50 cheaper than the Harmony One.

Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also if there are any other brands I should consider, please let me know.

If those 3 components are all you are wanting to control the Harmony should be fine. I have this one http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-915-0...7042884&sr=8-1 . I use it for a Panny 50 s1 , HD-A3, Onkyo AVR, LG BD370 Bd Player and my Motorola DVR.

I would also recommend the Harmony. There are several models that will do the job quite well and for a very affordable price.

As far as your internet, it may take alittle longer to setup the remote, but it'll be worth the wait. Once you get it setup through the internet, then that'll be the end to any further internet connection, unless you make hardware changes (additions and/or removals).

What are some of the differences between the 610 and the 670?

Nope, I have no favorites, as I still just use all the different individual remotes right now. In due time, I'll move over to a universal, but I have much more important purchases to make first.

The Harmony 670 is the best value of the bunch. It's reasonable to program, easily up to the task for simpler systems and you can find it cheap with a little hunting. Another neat thing is that, because it uses standard AA cells, if you buy this gadget -

I bought the 610 for $35 about 8 mos ago. It's been a good little remote with some tweaking here and there. Once it's programed it's so simple to use my 9 yr has no problems with it. An upgrade might be in my future, but I just can't justify spending $300 on a remote.

What I found is that the 610 can save up to 5 devices whereas the 670 can save 15 devices. That's about the biggest change I found between the two.

I also added a chart below comparing other Harmony remotes. Maybe it might help the OP.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I read a review on remotecentral about the Sony Remote Commander RM-VL610 so I went to Target and bought one.

When I got home I proceeded to program it. The tv and satellite receiver programmed ok. When I tried to program my blu-ray player it was a no go. I called Sony and they told me that no codes are available for their blu-ray players. I could make it learn but that would involve learning every button on the blu-ray player remote(the blu-ray is a Sony BDP-S360) and that's just too much of a hassle. Consequently, the RM-VL610 is being returned.

So the moral of this story is, Logitech here I come. Now to figure out which one I want. I'm leaning towards the One but don't know if I want to spend that much for the three components I want to control.

With Logitech, I'll have peace of mind because everything I own is in their database.

I got together with a good friend of mine on Friday to toss down a few cold frosty beverages. He is a home theater nut and eventually we got around to talking about remotes. I asked him what he used and he said Harmony 900 because he needed RF capabilities. He also had a One(brand new never been opened). I asked him how much he wanted for it and he (much to my surprise) nothing.

I said c'mon Man you're kidding me. He said nope, take it. I was flabbergasted.

He came over today and helped me program it(over a few more cold frosty beverages). I'm happy to say that works flawlessly and does everything I want.

The Harmony One rocks and so does my good friend
