Thread: Logitech Harmony IR Extender System Controls Hidden A/V Components

The use of infrared (IR) to operate devices with a remote control has always had a few drawbacks, one of which is the requirement for line-of-sight between the remote and the device. However, an open cabinet full of devices and exposed cords and cables doesn’t quite fit into the uncluttered living room that many people prefer these days.

The 1100 is a little overkill, but that's the fun in being an HD junkie always looking for the next "high" and it does work sweetly, BTW.

I see what Logitech's comparison charts tell me but I'm trying to get more of a "real world" feel for all of it. I think I'd favor Logitech on ease of setup right off the bat going into it but I'm not completely closed off to considering other options.

I went from an Harmony 880 which I had for almost 5 yrs, to the 1100 for several reasons, most importantly The TOUCH screen capabilities
The other remotes are great products but I found that due to the many buttons , whether they be lighted or not, sometimes if used in the dark can be pressed in error. And as I did on my 880 I had so many custom functions I created and assigned to many of the small buttons that it lead to confusion and most oftenly required turning a light to correct the problem. The 1100 has fewer physical buttons and they are well spaced so press the wrong one becomes less of a problem and the touch screen is definitely a Plus in this area. Good luck with your choice but either way a Harmony remote is a great universal asset for your system.
