    Default This surge protector OK??

While sitting here watching the power blink during the Nor'easter we are having, it dawned on me to wonder how my PS was doing (the first flicker took it out and it shuts itself down until I physically press the power button).

I have a APC Backups for the HDDVR, and the TV, Denon, Sub and BR player are connected to this guy. I've always trusted APC, but was just wondering if its an on par unit for protecting my gear from power flickers

I already own the APC I linked, bought it about a year ago. I'm not really in the market, just wondering if it was a good one. I spent about $120 on it new, so I'm sure it's on par with the Monster (I used to buy Monster but switched to APC because I feel they have Sony type pricing)

Thanks, I always knew the backups were, just wasnt as sure about the SP.

How long should you use a SP before replacing it (I've usually bought a new one with every tv)?

Thats a nice looking APC on ebay.

I've used mine for 3 years now, I think the rule of thumb is" replace if you've survived a power surge or failure".

Did some reading. Looks like 1-2 years is the recommend, because they give up a little everytime they are hit.

I guess when you figure the price of all your gear, $100 every 24 months is not bad.

I think I may invest in a new UPS for the 55" lcd, and a new SP for my gear.

Ok, so UPS's have lower joule ratings, so would you get a good UPS then have it hooked into a surge protector?

The hits tonight took out my protection light, which means the APC C3's protection is used up and I need to buy one anyway (I mean what are the odds??).

How is this guy (780w UPS) for the tv and hddvr

And this for the rest of the stuff

I'd plug the UPS into the Monster SP, so it would have the 3240 joules of the monster.

Sound like a good idea? I know the Monster SP would be fine for the tv too, but I'd ASSume its best to have the tv on a UPS.
