    Default 32" LCD/LED recommendation

I need to purchase a 32" panel for my son. I was thinking about the Panasonic DT-30 but the cost $750 is a bit offsetting + it's a 2011 model. I have thought about the Panasonic E5. I would appreciate others insight. Our main tv is a VT-30 55", so I was looking at Panasonics first, but not solely. My son will view the panel from about 5' and does some gaming but main use would be watching tv 1080i - uverse. When he moves out (recent college graduate), this would be his main/only tv. Insights would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I've been through the TV for college kid thing twice now. I personally would spend around $500, get a bigger screen. Go more for average quality, bigger screen. Unless he's a complete A/V nut, he will only notice that he has a 32" screen vs a 46"

While I can't recommend a brand (not much of a TV guy), I would simply scratch the 32" and go bigger.

I agree with the going a little larger.

If you can catch a closeout on the 2011 Samsung CCFL LCD models, they're pretty decent. The Samsung LN40D550 is 60Hz, and the Samsung LN40D630 is a CNET recommended 120Hz model. I've recently seen stock still around in a few stores: the D550 is on clearance at both BB, Sears and Target for $580 or less (my Target had only one left and had priced it down to $485), and D630 is on clearance at BB and Sears for $650, which actually makes it the better deal if you can't find the D550 for under $500.

You may want to consider the Samsung UN40EH5000 (5050 is the warehouse version of the same TV) for around $650, that is Samsung's newest basic TV line for 2012, they use a simplifed LED backlighting system, they're basically a replacement for what in years past would have been a lower-side-of-mid-range CCFL model. FYI: despite the marketing speak, they are 60Hz. There is also a 5300 model that adds a 3rd HDMI input and SmartTV features for about $50 more.

The one CCFL model that Samsung is making this year is the E550, which is of course just a replacement for the D550, it's going for $550 at BB and Sears but it hasn't shipped to stores just yet.

I got a Samsung 32" LN32D550 a few months ago for an extra room small TV. It works well with excellent black levels and no flashlighting.
Also available in 37", 40", and 46" sizes.
The new UN32EH5000 (also available in larger sizes) looks great as well with good reviews.
These are no-frills 1080p HDTVs with a good USB media player feature built-in.

I am buying a 32 inch LCD Proscan for my son who is going away to college. I purchased this TV for $189. The box arrived in very bad shape with a big hole in it so I didn't accept it.
I am trying to decide to just replace the tv or should I buy another brand/model.
Anybody have experience with this tv? Any recommendations?

I'd stick with a brand name. You can get a Samsung 32" LED-LCD for about $100 more, but I think it would be worth it. The Samsung UN32EH4000 goes for about $330, then you have a real brand behind it for warranty repairs, etc. If you register your Samsung product online they give you an extra 90-days of warranty on top of the standard year. You might also be able to find a slightly better deal on the Samsung LN32D403 which is the 2011 CCFL based model that the EH4000 replaces in the lineup.

I posted above while at work. Purchased the Samsung UN32EH4000 from B&H Photo for $319 and change.
Came home and read your recommendation.
    Excellent advice. Thanks.
