I think MMA organizations should allow any realistic prospects to try out MMA. I think MMA is still in its infancy and these types of fights will allow the people to gauge how tough MMA fighters really are against guys that are or were once professional athletes in other sports. This will either embarrass MMA if James Toney steps in the ring with a guy like Brock and immediately KOs him. Or it will legitimize it if Brock can destroy this guy. Long term wise, these kind of fights will just make MMA better. Just don't sign Canseco because that guy is just a circus act.

Toney wants money. And this will bring some boxing fans over that normally wouldn't. At least for one night.

I'm a huge boxing fan and I've followed Toney's career since the early 90's. I was ringside for his absolute war with Vasily Jirov. That was the fight-of-the-year.

That said, obviously he is on the decline because of his age and weight gain. However, he still has a concrete jaw, slick defense and quick hands. Dana will have to match him carefully (i.e. against a stand-up fighter) if James is to have any success. Would I pay to see him fight MMA..no. Would I watch a free (cable) show, hell yes!

One thing I know is dana want's to prove that mma is far superior to boxing. He has talked about getting a boxer in the octagon for a while now. Sounds like he finally found a boxer dumb enough to do it.

Yea, that's what he wants to do(Show how MMA is better then boxing). I mean common sense would tell you if all you do is box, you're going to get schooled in MMA, and the same goes for a MMA figher(Not all of them, since a majority have decent stand up.) which coudn't use take downs, or leg Kicks.. It's comparing Apples to oranges..
