Pretty interesting:

On February 12, 2009, reports surfaced that province regulators ("Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux", or RACJ) requested a set of rule changes that differ from the Unified Rules of MMA has put the event at risk from taking place. The proposed rule changes banned elbow and knee strikes, mandated a smaller cage, and would stop a fight when a fighter gets knocked down. Before, the RACJ has followed the Unified Rules, but as laws differ by city, state, or province, a commission can insist on the usage of its own rules.

On February 18, 2009, it was announced that UFC officials were able to convince the RACJ to reverse its stand and use the Unified Rules. As a concession, the UFC agreed to the banning of foot stomps for this event. Therefore, UFC 97 will remain in Montreal on April 18, 2009, as originally planned.

This should be a great card. You know the UFC is getting very deep with talent when names like Nate Quarry, Jason MacDonald, David Loiseau and Ed Herman are all on the prelim card.

You guys ever go to Hooters for the fight? No cover, and a pretty good crowd! Went there for the BJ Penn/GSP fight and had a good time.

I usually just invite a crowd over and watch it here. I usually put it on the dvr so I can watch it again later.

He's stepped up his training so hopefully it pays off. I can't bear to watch him lose again.

That's what I do as well. I don't like to go out and watch the fight, too many wannabe tough guys out there.. Better to sit home, relax, drink some beer

and eat some food..

Anderson Silva all the way.. Rumor I head, possible fight between GSP and Siliva in Dec 09, if they both win there next fights.. That would be a sick fight..

Nice to have another MMA fan here. I agree that would be an incredible fight. I don't like GSP's chances if he has to move up in weight, maybe if they can fight at a catch weight, but he will still give up alot of size.

Yea, but I think GSP would hold his own. He his a very powerful fighter, he has a better ground game then Silva, well from what I have seen anyways, since Silva isn't on his back too often..

I would be cheering for GSP, but size is hard to overcome, especially in todays UFC where everyone is so well rounded. GSP's wrestling is by far above everyone elses.

Liddell shouldn't be in the UFC? You gotta be shitting me man. The guy is healthy, loves to fight, and helped make it what it is today. Let him retire on his own terms. Who are we to say when he should call it quits?

Amen, just cause he's lost recently doesn't mean much. MMA is like no other sport, guys just don't dominate for long streaks. Hell if Silva wins tomorrow that will tie a record for consecutive title defenses, and its only 5. Tied with Liddell, so give him a shot, he's earned it.

Do you actually he think he be the champ again??? He has such a long road ahead of him. The only way I see him as champ if Dana just put up against the champ and he some how gets lucky. Have you watched his last fights, he didn't just lose, he got his ass handed to him.. He brought the fans, but how long will that last if he keeps losing?? I like the Iceman, but times have changed, needs to leave why he his still respected in the UFC..

Iceman was beating Rashad Evans until Rashad caught him with the punch. Up until that point, Chuck was controlling the fight BIG TIME. Same thing with Quinton, he got caught. It's not like Chuck is getting beat down and isn't putting up a fight.

If Chuck can beat Shogun, he'll be given a big fight. If Chuck can win that next fight, he'll be given a shot at the belt.
