Where is Dnice lately or did I miss something?? He hasn't been posting anything lately(that I have seen), just wondering if he is busy reviewing the new sets or what? Would really like to hear his opinions on the new TV's especially the VT50 which I have purchased but do not have yet. Thanks

CP or Chad, is the silver trim on the VT50 the same size, bigger or smaller then on the VT30?

Not trying to answer for anyone else but, I've seen a 55VT50 and the trim is larger than the VT30. It's more of a satin nickel finish than chrome imo.

thanks. so the bezel on the VT50 is smaller then the VT30 but the silver/nickel trim is bigger? just trying to decide whether it's worth an upgrade from my current VT30

Is that your main criteria for upgrading? The size of the trim?!? Sorry couldn't resist

I think I'd like to know how the picture compares first.

    Correct on the bezel.

Hard to say on your value on the upgrade.

It seems clearly a better TV, but it's a hugely expensive upgrade. Only you can decide if the value is really there.

that's not my main criteria for upgrading. picture quality is the biggest factor. but the asthetics do play a part (but lower on the list). I just havn't been able to find out about the trim and bezel size up until now

yup it does seem like the better TV (black levels, color decoding, filter) but the question is how much better and if it is worth it. a better VT30 doesn't seem like a huge leap. I'm actually seriously considering the LG 55" OLED as that would seem like a no-brainer upgrade. if it can be had for around $5500 I might bite

I wouldn't buy a first generation OLED, even if I had the money.

There aren't any reviews of the NA VT50, but based on the NA ST50 and the reviews of the EU VT50, it seems like a pretty substantial leap in my books (at least compared to the year after year improvements in the past). Even the ST50 performs better than the VT30. With that said, when it comes to PQ, YMMV in terms of how noticeable the improvements are. And considering how much it will cost to upgrade, it would be hard to justify. If it's too late to return your VT30, or unless you can sell it for a good price so it wouldn't cost that much more to upgrade, or you have a smaller VT30 and you want to go up in size, I think you're better off waiting a year or two.

Well she is real thin from top to bottom for once Edge to Edge glass on the front with about a 1" black section around the screen on all 4 sides. Thin piece of silver around the very outside of the very front of the unit. --NO 3D glasses in the box.--

So Far THX mode was a breeze to calibrate. Day and Night time modes are being worked on now.
Black levels not checked yet. Chad is saying it "looks" to be quite darker than the GT50

Now we are all really anticipating that review. Noticeably darker than the GT by eye? Pretty awesome if that holds up in measurements.

Is Chad working on a 65" or 55"? If it's the former, that could explain the noticeably better blacks, seeing as how the larger panels are supposed to have slightly better blacks. I'm expecting the VT50 to have about the same black levels as the GT and ST, seeing as how that's the case in EU, and so far holds true in NA (ST and GT).
