Default Problem getting standby pass through to work with denon AVR 591 and kuro plasma

Hooked up A cable box, PS3 and pioneer bd player via HDMI to a denon , then a HDMI out to my Kuro Pro-111. Im having difficulty getting standby pass through to work.

I turn on receiver and plasma and cable box, then turn off the reciever, and get video and audio through the plasma (standby pass through). Leaving the receiver off, I turn off plasma, wait a few seconds, then turn back on plasma without turning the receiver on. I get video and audio for 2 seconds (pass through) then video and audio go blank. I never change inputs.

Is there a something that I'm missing, or is the receiver defective?

I have the following receiver settings:

    HDMI Audio out - Amp
    HDMI Control - On
    Standby Source - Last

    Pioneer settings:

    Power Off Control - On
Power - On Ready - On
    Hold Sound Status -On.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    John

Displays are like 100% cotton t-shirts. Always buy a size larger than you think you'll need, as they tend to shrink over time.

I dont have a denon (I have a yamaha) but I have found this to be a little quirky. My experience has been that (at least on mine) it will only passthrough on the last input it was on. Looks like the Denon has a standby source setting from what you posted though. In my case, I have to make sure that the receiver is on the input I want to pass through, before I turn it off. If I am watching a blu ray for example I have to use my harmony to switch to the activity I have which has my cable box being run through my receiver.

THEN I can turn the receiver off and (after a short pause that seems like some sort of handshake is going on), the plasma will come back on with the sound routing through it (passthrough). Seems like you are describing the passthrough routing to another input when you turn it off, as characterized by the "get video and audio for 2 seconds then blank". Check your standby source setting and see if you can change it to a particular input (for testing) and see if it works then?

Also, forgive me but I am having a little trouble reading your "off /on" state flow in the post above. Can you check the post you made and see if it describes as you intended? The part I am unclear on is:

"I turn on receiver and plasma, then turn off plasma, and get video and audio through the plasma." Do you mean turn on receiver and plasma, turn off receiver, and get audio and video through plasma?

Thanks L2W, I did use his tutorial, and set the Denon settings as recommended to no avail. I thought maybe there was a setting I needed to change in the Kuro.

Yes it was late and I was using my iPad to type. I have the cable box, plasma and receiver all on. I turn off the receiver, and the video and audio is passed through to the plasma. If I turn off the plasma, and wait a few seconds, then turn the plasma back on, the video and audio will be passed through to the plasma for about 2 seconds, then it goes blank, no video or audio, until I turn the receiver back on.

I have the standby pass through routed to the cable box at all times.

Does the Kuro have any sort of HDMI CEC / control setting (that is designed to let it be controlled)? I read through the guide and that seems to be a gotcha. Other than that, I am out of ideas except that I believe it is something that is switching OFF, evidenced by it working for a couple seconds, then turning off...

    You are exactly right.
I had to go in and turn off the Pioneer's HDMI CEC / control completely.
It's working now. Thanks for your help.
