Audiophiles know well the name Dan D'Agostino, who co-founded Krell in 1980 and served as its chief engineer for 30 years. After selling the company in 2009, this audio legend started a new one—Dan D'Agostino Master Audio Systems—whose first fruit is the Momentum monoblock power amp, which will debut at CES next month.

Damn I like just looking at that thing, can only imagine how it sounds.

Shame they are not Krell.

I can. No better than a pair of XPA-1's at a cost of $40,000 more. Sure they are pretty and built like a tank but that does not translate to sounding any better than many, many things at that cost far less. I couldn't spend that kind of money on amps even if I won the lotto. That is just throwing money away in my opinion. 40 grand buys the best Maggies there are and a kick ass amp for each one of them. I have heard many, many of these kinds of pricey amps and while they do look pretty and are built impeciable in most cases they just dont justify the price when comparing them for sound quality at stuff that costs thousands less. One of the best sounding pair of amps I have ever heard was a pair of Monoblock 300 watt Adcoms. They bested amps in the room at 10x the price they were.

Say what you want, but you know your emo amp's aren't as good as what this guy is running on his MMG's!

In what regard? Build quality? I will give you that. Sound quality? That you won't be able to prove. Specs? The XPA-1 kills that amp on specs. Do you think your ears are going to hear build quality? I am not saying the XPA-1's are as good I am saying that amp is not 40k better and in actual sound quality human ears would not likely be able to decern any differences. There also comes a point that no matter how good the amp may actually be there is no speaker made that can reproduce those differences let alone the human ear being able to detect it.

I was once a firm believer that amps didn't really make a difference until I purchased some Krell KAS monos. A friend and I sat down once connecting them up and he said to me, "I wonder how hard we are going to have to listen to hear a difference", my old amp was a Krell FPB-600 which was fairly well regarded.
The difference was chalk and cheese! More bottom end and tight as 2 coats of paint! Smoother highs and as for the mids, sublime!
It was after this experience that I discovered power amps aren't equal.
In relation to Dans' new amps being 40 times better or worth the 40k price.... not a hope, it's called deminishing returns but I can guarantee that you would hear a significant difference from the Emotiva. It may not be a 40k difference in your eyes but to some it is.
