Default PlayStation to Add CinemaNow, Gets Into 3DTV Business

This fall PlayStation 3 will add Best Buy’s CinemaNow service, and Sony Computer Entertainment will release a PS3-themed 24-inch 3DTV display, bundled with 3D glasses, an HDMI cable and 3D game, the company announced at its Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) press event June 6.

“Content partners see the value that PlayStation Network offers,” Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said of the CinemaNow announcement.

The 3DTV set will have a retail price of $499.99 and Sony’s 3D glasses alone will retail for $69 each. The set is specifically tailored to gamers, allowing two players to see individual full-screen images of gameplay, when using a supported title.

    Me too. I just picked up a PS3 160GB for $199.99 during today's gold box special. I haven't gamed since Nintendo 64, PS1 era.

Displays are like 100% cotton t-shirts. Always buy a size larger than you think you'll need, as they tend to shrink over time.

I have one of these and never use it to game, LOL. Its currently the best netflix streamer, as it can stream some titles in 5.1. I also use a software package called "ps3mediaserver" which is free, and runs on a computer to stream my media files to my TV. it plays MKVs AVIs etc (with the ps3 mediaserver). Its very very forgiving on file types.

I also use it for hulu plus. I no longer use it to play blu rays, but still feel like it is a good value, especially at 199. The only thing it doesnt do is, play 3d movies and output HD audio at the same time (like dts-hd or dolby tru hd codecs).

It also does iso files so it will run ripped DVDs and I think Blu Rays with at least DTS 6.1
