    Default Need 3d AV Receiver

I am looking for a new receiver because my current one doesnt support 3d, and I am getting a vt30 this year.

I think I would rather go used for the receiver since I can get more for the money. Could you guys please recommend me a used avr for my 2 rc-30s (200w RMS) that supports 3d? I'd like the best wattage and sound quality for the money. I won't ever upgrade to 5.1 if that matters. Budget is $400. Thanks.

You don't need a used receiver for $400..you can get a new Denon 891 from 6th Ave Electronics for $389...free shipping...I'll post a link in the Deals forum...as we try to keep the links confined to that area for Deals...

With all of the content available in surround sound, you would be doing yourself a great disservice if not looking at 3.1. The center channel carries ALL of the dialog and up to 80% of the front soundstage. You WILL have trouble hearing dialog, it will be muffled and sometimes completely missing if or when a surround soundtrack is sent to your equipment, and it will, no doubt about that.

With that being said, here is something that would fit the bill for you but keep in mind that you will need a matching center speaker. LINK

Noticed that amp is 7 channels, isn't that overkill?

Nope...you said you wanted the "best wattage and sound quality for the money"...and that is over 50% off..because it's last years model...

They are almost all that way now but you don't have to use the extra channels, just use it as a 3.1 system. I changed the one i my previous link so you might want to recheck that.

if I only use 2 channels, does it take the supposed wattage from the other ones not being used, and apply them to the ones being used?

    Example: Instead of 7 x 90 wpc, it will be 2 x 315 wpc?

I'll have to test to see if a center makes a big difference, thanks for the tip.

It will actually be 90 WPC rather than being divided amongst all of the other channels. As I previously attempted to explain, if you don't use a center channel you will be missing crucial information, dialog being the most important and music on a secondary level when a surround sound presentation is sent. It will be and many TV shows only send surround so to prepare you should have equipment that will allow you to hear the information, otherwise you will be at a loss, a disadvantage...

I may have to look at getting an rc-lcr center to match my fronts then.

Would going from a 105 wpc 5 chennel av receiver to a 90 wpc 7 channel av receiver be a downgrade in power though?

I wouldn't worry about the wattage.

As far as not having at least a 3.1. Life is far better with surround, but you've gotten by on 2 channel for some time now right? I've never seen a TV set top box that doesn't allow you to select between stereo and surround so you should be ok there. Same with Blu's.

You can always add a center channel in when the money is available.
    I own some stuff.

That all depends on the manufacturer and how they arrive at their power ratings. Maybe yes, maybe no. As long as it will pass 3D, that's what seems important. I would recommend not buying used as you have no idea of the abuse it may have withstood. As for brands, as long as you stay with Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, Pioneer and Yamaha you should be fine.

My wife even likes the dynamic volume control feature on the Denon avr891. WAF in play once again.
