Have no problem getting sound out from tv when watching tv. However we watched a movie thru vudu and could not get the to play on the home theater. Using HDMI ARC only. Do you think I need to hook up the digital sound wiring.

The audio out of the tv set itself is really only used for off air signals. Not BD players and set top boxes.
Please tell us what equipment you are using and explain how you have it all hooked up.
Magnepan, B&K, Emotiva, HSU
.Using HTIB SC-BTT195. Connected using the HDMI (ARC) slot. With viera connect you can switch the sound automatically from the tv speakers to the HTIB while watching tv, but fails to put out any sound while wamtching streaming video. Odd thing it works fine with Netflix. Must have something to do with the 1080p movies on vudu
Tv is a 60GT50

I believe this answers my question. I will need to hook up the digital sound out. On the other hand the BD player has built in internet and VUDU is already on board. The sound plays thru the home theater if I fire it up on the BD player. Odd isn't it. I do like the Viera Link service. Once engaged your TV remote acts like a BD player remote.
VUDU FAQs
Yes. However, not all sound bars support Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus. If your sound bar does not support Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital Plus, you will need to make sure that your TV can send PCM 2-channel audio in order to hear audio with the VUDU service.
But your system does support Dolby Digital and DD+. Anyhow, I expect running Toslink will resolve the problem, even though it doesn't seem like you should have a problem.

Anyone who may follow this thread, the problem was in the BD Player. I had to set the incoming ARC settings to align with the TV out. All is well. I recently traded in that system for a real AVR with ARC as well. It should work the same. Nice to be able to stream 1080P movies from VuDU and plumb the 5.1 Surround Sound out thru the AVR.
