Default Am I nuts? Temporarily leave the Pioneer Pro 151 behind and purchase 65" GT50

I'm thinking about buying the 65" GT50 right now. Here's my situation.

lived with my GF for 5 years. Since we haven't been getting along, I moved out and got another place...

    Displays:

    Her place:

    1. Living room - Pioneer Pro 151
    2. Bedroom - 55" GT50 (I took the Pioneer Kuro 5020)

My new place - (Just moved in yesterday. I temp. had to get a studio until my place was done)

    1. Living room - Pioneer Kuro 5020 50"
    2. Bedroom - Nothing

I'm too lazy at the moment to remove the 60" Elite off the wall and since I made her get the 55" GT50, I don't wanna make her go out right now and get a new display. So, my girl said she'd pay half for it and if and when I decide to grab the Pioneer, she would take the 65" and we both wouldn't be paying the full price.

Like to hear thoughts from 65" owners. Anyone swap out the 60" Elite for a new Panny? What's strange is when I go to her place and watch the Pioneer, it seems so..... Not dull.....What's the word I'm looking for??? I guess It just doesn't have the POP as my 5020, which still blows me away as far as pic quality goes.

This is one of the best posts on the site in some time I'm envisioning what I would do if my ex-girlfriend had been around to see my Kuro. All she did was hog my Panny watching Criminal Minds and Ghost Hunters, haha. Well, that's not all she did. Moving on.

This is interesting because I've been less than impressed with the 141/151s I've seen, but for some reason was amazed with a 5020 that I watched. I have no idea other than maybe the colors aren't rec.709 so it adds some dimension. I thought in lots of mid-high apl content that my old ST30 was more enjoyable than my 500m. I'd say it's the light output and some more blown out colors, as well.

That being said, those GT50s get mighty dark, especially over 60" and they've got some serious light output, so the dynamic range is impressive- but you've seen the set, so I'd do it.

Does she even care about TV's and picture quality? If it were me, I'd buy some $800 60" pile of junk from Sams Club, stick on on the wall, remove the Elite, and don't even mention the whole thing to her and she'd NEVER know the difference...

LOL. Oh trust me. She hogs the TV with worse shows than that! If it's a reality show, she's glued to the set. One of the reason I had to go was because I couldn't take anymore Housewives shows. Thanks for the input.

Not really. She'd probably be happy with a Zenith picture tube set. It's not so much about her as to me not only wanting a bigger/newer display, I honestly don't feel like moving the moose off the wall. I'm so tired of moving and don't wanna take the chance of breaking it.

And I think I'm going to be able to get the 65" for well under 2400.00. Waiting to hear back from my guy. So, what prices have you seen for the 65"?

I've been out of the buying a display game for quite some time. Panny usually releases the high end models early next year correct? Nothing coming out in the next couple of months?

Well if you don't want it and she doesn't care, I'll throw one of my spare TV's in my car and come trade one of mine for the 151. I have really been wanting a 151, this is going to be sweet. What's the address?

Sony XBR65HX929 ....come over to the darkside ....lol

It's funny, but there was NO bigger Sony supporter than Myself. I used to buy one ever year. The last one I owned was the XBR5 and I traded it in for a Plasma and never looked back.

Man, I gotta tell ya, though I barely had time to play with it or tweak the settings to my liking, I gotta say, I am EXTREMELY impressed with the 65GT50.

Oh I guess I should mention that I bought one yesterday.

Blacks seem to get a little better after ~150 hours.

It won't have quite the inky blacks on low APL content as your Kuros, but it will look similar in everything else.
