Well, Gregg talked to me about it and i did some reading, like i said, "fragg it"! Im an impulse buyer. I actually think this is a good investment, because it can fine tune Gamma and has a GREAT CMS, as well as the video processing goodies. It's one of those things that stays in the HT when the tv's and players change.

That's exactly what it is. I'll be getting one myself (or perhaps some other component like it) in the near future.

Gregg's hooking me up with the price, and his tour down here is week after labor day. He'll bring it with him then. He also said he's had backorder issues with them in the past, so if you do buy one, there may be a delay. Im very excited to see how the picture looks after the DVDO is dialed in. Im hoping me saving a $1000 on the lower end plasma, and adding the DVDO, is a worthwhile move. I think it may be for the long run.

One question. If you are having it professionally calibrated why buy the meter? Well 2 questions , how far are you from Jackson Mo? You know, if you would like to test it. Lol

I bought the C5 back when I wanted to play around. IMO, the C5 is good for setting gamma and light output, but I dont have as much confidence in its color and grayscale reporting. I get touchup for $225, and since he just did my Regza, he's offered to do the S2 for a discount.

When I paid for his Sept tour the other day, he kinda scolded me for getting a non THX model, since you can't reign in color. I told him, since I was getting a calibration, I did not even think about it, plus I wanted the 58", I also was unaware how good the THX mode was now. He then recommended the DVDO. I'll run the HDDVR and BR player into it, then out to the S2. The 2nd output will allow an HDMI out to the RCVR for my HD audio. He claims he can get an even better gamma and "spot on" color with the DVDO.

As far as testing the meter, , I dont think C5's work too well with plasmas.

I see. The next panny I buy will have THX mode. Although cinema has been quite acceptable to me. Always looking for the best Pq I can afford.

Yeah, I think especially if you arent goin to have it calibrated, THX mode gives you great settings outta the box. Then, if you do get it calibrated, THX mode allows the guy to get it real good.

Im kinda glad he got me looking at the DVDO. More I look at it, more I like the idea. Like I said before, the tv and players will come and go, but the video processing unit is something that can be used with everything. TomHuffmans review really talks up it's abilities for improving PQ, so it's exciting.

Enjoy. There is nothing like getting to play with a new set. You are ahead of me I just used the S and P disc to cal my set. Maybe if I get a pro cal I would get over my desire to upgrade.

I plan to as well. My calibrator Shawn Byrne called me up letting me know he could get me one for $799 since he gets discounts.

A grayscale calibration does wonders, I learned that from playing with the C5. You go from wondering if it's worth the money, to realizing a calibration is a must. Once this one is broken in, I'll use Spears and Munsil, DVE and the AVS disc to find a mean for all normal settings, then leave it alone will Sept. Prob use D-Nice's recommended Contrast setting. Not gonna mess with the SM.

S and M disc is what I meant. (Blackberry won't let me edit) . It was night and day so a pro cal should really wow me.

Just setting basics like Brightness and Contrast are big things, then the color. Most peoples house I go over to, if they'll let me, I'll adjust their brightness and color temp by eye. Usually too cool and crushing blacks. Hell, the 32" tv Im using now until the S2 gets here, has been calibrated (by me) :D.

That does it. I'm getting a Duo for my system. The 10-point RGB controls are just too good to pass up, as is the vastly superior image processing and upscaling. *sigh* Time to start saving up again...
