Default Sony asks for restraining order against Geohot, fail0verflow over PS3 exploits

The company has filed suit against George "Geohot" Hotz, the "hacking group" fail0verflow (Hector Cantero, Sven Peter, "Bushing," and "Segher"), and numerous John / Jane Does over the exploit and its release. To be more specific, the company cites violations of Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, various copyright infringements, and other acts of binary malfeasance. A temporary restraining order has also been sought, asking that all "circumvention tools" be taken offline and his computers and related media (i.e. anything storing said tools) be impounded.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!! Burn, Sony! Burn!!! You guys more than earned this from the unrepented Sony Rootkit Scandal of 2005. Say, how're those profit margins these days, huh Sony?? Little soft, are they? Mmm??

    HAAAA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

    Deeply enjoying this,

    David

As a network security engineer I can never get behind hacking.

    It's against my nature.
    I own some stuff.

Hehe, I can see the conflict. I dont think it's that I agree with hacking, i just like to see Sony eat it every now and then.

Ditto. I'm no friend to the hackers (hey, those guys suck, you know?), but what Sony did in 2005 was hacking and they never even so much as apologized for it. To see them today pay a price for their misconduct with such turnabout is just delicious.

IMO, they (all the larger corporations) are corrupt to some degree. The only difference is some know how to cover their tracks better than others. No one knows how corrupt a corporation is unless they have first hand knowledge of this. I personally don't see Sony as any worse than Samsung or Toshiba.

    Hi bravestime,

Neither do I, but as a privacy advocate I took special exception to what they did in 2005. I mean, they roached a whole bunch of people's computers with corporate rootkits and never even told them or warned them they'd do it. And then they blew it off when they got caught. That is something I cannot easily forgive. To me, the principal thing about my computer is it's my computer; no one else has any rights to it unless I give them such rights. That's what prompted me to boycott Sony.

    Yours,

    David

I certainly respect ones opinion about any corporation. Everyone can see things differently. I just don't hold much stock in the "politics" of the corporations. I only base how I like a corporation by the quality and dependability of their products. I'm sure others will differ in my opinion, but that's what makes the world go round. LOL
