Okay it looks like we'll have the shoot-out the last week end in June or no later than the 2nd week end of July. And we just decided on our 8th panel so now the shoot-out wall is full.
-Robert
so can you set aside a VT30 when you get them next week and run it 24/7 until the Shootout so we can see if any black rise occurs?...and will you be running the VT30 for 3000+ hours after the Shootout is over to measure black levels at that time?
I like the idea, but we have every one committed and I can't imagine disappointing anyone. I am running my ST30 and GT30 store demos 24/7 and once we get enough VT30 I will leave on on 24/7 till the shoot-out date and then for many months later.
I do not expect a repeat of the 2009 raise of MLL.
-Robert
Not at all. But if you follow the trend you are suggesting one might extrapolate another further reduction of the rise in MLL or maybe no rise over time at all. But that's not my reasoning anyway.
I can't disclose much of my conversations with my contacts at Panasonic, but I can tell you many very smart video experts have posted on HDJ and other forums that the brightness fluctuation is the opposite of the increasing MLL.
I do not expect any rise in MLL for the 2011 Viera panels and that's all I can say.
These are great panels and have been very nicely redesigned this year.
-Robert
brightness flucs are the opposite of floating blacks...as far as rising blacks as usual no one will know for a few more months and by then people forget, don't care as much or are looking forward to 2012...plus the people that were really interested in a 2011 set would have already purchased one by then...but I will save your quote-- "I do not expect any rise in MLL for the 2011 Viera panels and that's all I can say"
Thanks for honoring me with saving my quote. ^^ I have very reliable sources that I believe in and several other industry insiders that I speak with have confirmed my information.
I'm flattered. Now please don't forget to re-post with my quote let's say sometime before the end of the year.
-Robert
if true I'll be the first to give you props as even D-Nice is skeptical that the mll rise has been eliminated...if the VT30 can completely eliminate any mll rise, completely eliminate floating blacks, has a .004 or .003 mll and has minimal brightness fluctuations then I will definitely get the VT30
TitusTroy I think you are looking for a TV that will emulate how we can see by looking out a window. ^^ It's not gonna happen.
-Robert
Can't wait for this one Robert. Do you have any confimation as to who will be attending this years shootout?
Thank you tele1962.
Not at this moment, but the previous shoot-out events are always very well attended by industry experts and special guests.

Looking forward to the line up when it's available. Robert, is the shootout open to anyone? I live about seven hours away (Kingston, Ontario) and would love to come.
Wow, this is amazing news. If it's at .003-.004, and I'm really hoping/thinking it'll be the former, this is going to be an incredibly performer. Even .004 is fantastic. I can't put into words how happy I'm going to have this set in less than three weeks most likely.
Robert, in a year or two, after I get some income, maybe I'll come over and bring my girl (she's not an enthusiast like us, BUT she is a film buff/loves this kinda thing, so she would enjoy it) to that year's shootout, it sounds like a blast.

You would be a very welcome guest. We get many International attendees. Last year we had England, Japan and Canada guests.
To be invited we request a brief questioner as we are looking for serious a/vphiles, industry insiders, TV Broadcast engineers and Hollywood movie directors and cinematographers. We love HDJ members so you always get priority.
Hope you can make it.
-Robert
If there is room, I'd like to attend again this year.
Displays are like 100% cotton t-shirts. Always buy a size larger than you think you'll need, as they tend to shrink over time.

will I get beat up if I make an appearance?
Probably
HAHAHA

You gents are all very welcome.
Looking forward to seeing all of you. Previous attendees are automatically invited, but still need to register. First time guests need to complete a brief application and be added to the attendance list.
The applications will be available on-line by the end of May if not sooner.
-Robert
If you look for the bad in displays expecting to find it, you surely will.
I'm not a calibrator but I play one on my TV.
