yes, the ipad can do pretty much everything you can do with a laptop. even print. if you think you might be using it to enter a lot of text (e.g., email, long string URL's) you might want to consider a keyboard. me? i haven't found the need for a keyboard yet. one thing to be aware of though: it can be hard to use an ipad outside when it's sunny.

i use our ipad all the time as sort of a "remote" computer. works best for consuming media (as it sounds like you'd be doing) rather than creating it. enjoy!

I would say yes, in fact I'm using mine right now, it really is a game changer for sure. As I have reported before you can even use it as a total remote control for my new VT30 and some Panasonic Blu-Ray player. Since I got mine I have not opened my MacBook pro. Yes it is the best thing since sliced bread. 100% total highest rating I can give.

Im getting a VT30 as well . I can already used my ipad 2 on the Direct TV app for my DVR...this is very cool.

Now I'm gonna be able to use it on the VT30 as well to change menue options.

Don't know for sure if my Elite reciever will have an app to where I can control my audio . If anyone knows let me know.. My model on the rec. is VSX 32

I believe the VSX-32 does. I'm pretty sure my VSX-33 does. I've just never used it.

I also have the Time/Warner app that allows me to play most of their channels. Apple TV has a great remote control app.
Netflix has a cool app that allows any movie anywhere.

The new Elite I know has a a app that is really cool..

If you think about it, I really don't need to worry about an App for my reciever for music streaming because I do have APPLE TV . I can stream from my phone or ipads, Or even my macbook. Watch movies, ect..ect... That is why i Rarely use Netflix anymore. Just run everyting through apple tv.

My only delema is watching Directv and not having the option on my ipad to control the volume.

Apple TV has a volume, just turn the amp up, then turn the volume down with your iPad, that's what I do works slick.
