Thread: Paradigm center chanel help

Hey Folks -

I have 3/5's of my 5.1 system complete.

So far:

Denon 991
Paradigm Atom's v6 (L/R)
Paradigm ADP-190's v5

I'm left looking for a sub and a center. Obviously, I'd love to go with the CC-190, but unfortunately, I HAVE to place it in a space that only allows 20 inches of width. Bummer.

Any suggestions on a center that may blend well with the Paradigm's? I realize my options are extremely limited. So far, I've found the PSB C5 and the Def Tech Procenter 2000 would work for that space, but again, I'm worried about timbre matching. It would be great to go out and test (which I have), but I was hoping someone may know a thing or two about which manufacturers pair well (if any).

Next, the sub. Admittedly, I haven't heard a HSU or REL in person, but I am confident either brand will suit my needs. The obvious first choice would be the Paradigm PDR-10/100, though I think I can upgrade to something a little nicer. I should note this is a living room setup with probably a 70/30 HT/Music ratio. I don't need a turbine engine. The room is large with hardwoods. I will find a custom mat/carpet for the sub. Based on what I've gathered from collected opinions, the REL T2 seems to be a nice fit and I can nab one brand new for just under $500 shipped. I guess I am looking for some reassurance that this sub will do the trick given my current configuration... or if there are others I should explore in this price range.

In the $400-$500 range don't even consider the paradigm pdr-10 it is not worth the msrp price tag. It really is only worth around $200 IMO stay in the direction of rel,hsu,svs etc.. I will say search and search for a paradigm center I found one here at a good price that is 20" wide not sure of the seller but it is worth looking into LINK

The first link was for a cc-170 and the second was the cinema 330 v.3.

Yeah, home now and can click on links. The Cinema 330 looks to be 24+ inches wide. And I've already measured the CC-170. Unfortunately, it's actually 20 7/8, v. 20 flat.

Appreciate your help. The SE would be a nice match, just not a fan of the $600 dollar price tag.

Well the only reason I mentioned the Cinema 330 was that it is a flat wall mountable speaker. I cant see what your room is like, but was thinking maybe a wall mount speaker would/could work for you. Damn about the cc-170.

The center is going in an entertainment unit "bridge" above the PN64D7000. I have exactly 20" inches to work with. I am scouring audiogon/craigslist/ebay for a deal on the Signature/Studio/SE center, but looks like I may have to be patient.

On the plus side, I've found some great deals on the Velodyne Optimum 10 and REL T2. I realize these two are not really in the same class pricewise, but I did have a chance to hear both in person last night and think they're terrific options for a Music/HT setup.

Side note, I stumbled upon a CL listing for a pair of Monitor 7 v.5s AND CC-290 for $350. It's a divorcee who has no clue about A/V equipment and just wants them out of her house. I am going to test them this weekend to determine if I should switch out the Atom's for the Monitor's. I guess I could sell the 290.

That is a good Idea since that is an amazing deal, even if you had to throw the 290 in the garbage that would be a good deal, and you should have no trouble getting a couple hundred for the 290. Nice find!!!! I too will dig around and see what I can find that well fit for you.

Hey trey check out he paradigm se center it is 171/2" w and the price new is $500. Now I am thinking if that other deal works out for you that you could use some money from the 290 to help out with the se center.
