Default Driver blown, Got it Fixed.

Me and my brother have been jamming this crystal method song on the 3000 miles to grace land sound track. So last night he blew out the 10" drivers in his Klipsch kg 4.2's with this song. Then I bring the cd home and blow one of the mid range drivers in one of my atoms. This is why I love my brick and mortar store nearby, I call them and they tell me no big deal bring it in and we will get a brand new driver and install it for free!! A year and a half later they still are going to fix me up at no charge, where else do you get this kind of service. You might pay a premium at some of these stores but trust me it is worth it when you are in the situation I am in right now.

Man speed that sucks! You know it is kinda funny because my location is not one that you would think you could find one like that, and they have been around since the 60's. At the time there was only like one grocery store a couple restaurants one stop light and a high end A/V store.

Dude! What caused it? You are very lucky to get it fixed locally. That's cool. We have a couple high end shops around here too, but I'm not sure they'd fix it in house after a year.

Also curious - how did you know you had blown it? No sound, raspy sound, what?

No there was no sound of any kind. Honestly the only way I caught it was I accidentally turned on the speaker level adjustment in my AVR, and the front left speaker is the first to get white noise, and it sounded very different than normal (thin) so I changed over to the center and front right and sure enough when I changed it back to the front left nothing was coming out of the mid bass driver. Yes I am very lucky to have the store that I do. Get this, on one of my installs I bought a yamaha rx v 765 from vanns, a year later the damn thing wont turn on (blown speaker channel), and they fixed it for free for me, and I didn't even buy the damn thing from them. Though out the process of figuring out what was going on the surge protector that I did buy from them did come into question and they just gave me another one, when it was all said and done it had nothing to do with the surge protector and I gave it back to them, it was like a $100 APC. I have only spent about $900 in this store so it isn't like I am a big customer or something. I just got a call and it is the mid bass driver not the crossover or anything so they have to replace the tweeter and mid bass since the v.6 monitor line has the tweeter and mid bass are built into a one piece wave guide. Man I am lucky to have them, and am enjoying my surrounds as fronts at the moment.

My local shop is done with the repair, had to replace the whole wave guide as it is attached to the mid bass driver, I have started to break in process although I don't know why since I am going to pick up some monitor 7 v.4's today.

Consider this a life lesson. I can't , in good conscience , change the name. It brings too much joy to us.
