Default Anyone hear the new Klipsch Gallery series?

Trying to build my home theater and was all set to to do LCR and surrounds with the Goldenear Sat 3s until I went to demo them one more time. The shop also carries Klipsch and the guy recommended the new Gallery g-16s for fronts and the g-12s for surrounds. They sounded better than the GEs to me but I'm not an audiophile so I really don't know how to judge other than the Klipsch set up seemed to make a wider soundstage vs the GEs which seemed like the sound was coming from inside a box. They both look great and seem to be very high quality and pricing is very close so I would like to hear some other opinions before deciding. Has anyone seen any professional reviews or has anyone demo'd them and can offer an opinion? Much appreciated!

    Hi ja0024,

I'm not familiar with the Klipsch Gallery series, but if you threw in some more information (budget? amplification? room size?) we may be able to help you build your theater

Yay someone else who felt the same way about Klipsch vs. GE. I'm rocking the Reference II series, I've honestly not liked the sound of any of these on wall tiny speakers. Though I'm sure I would enjoy the Klipsch the most.

You will find with Klipsch that most opinions are Love or Hate. I love them, if they sound better to you than get them.

Right now I have an open floor plan from the kitchen into the family room where the tv is so the surrounds will have to be small enough to sit on end tables and the openness makes it tough to fill with sound. I really want flat panel speakers because we spend 90% of the time in that room and I need the floor space for my two young kids to play (and the wife thinks they look better than towers). I just got my first HDTV after 18 years with a CRT that would still be working great if I hadn't dropped it while rearranging the room so I have no experience with any sort of home theater and therefore I have a hard time picking equipment, especially speakers. Right now I only have the tv (55vt30 still running break in slides) and the free Panasonic 110 that came with it plus an old Paradigm PDR-10 sub that seems to still work okay. From researching this forum and others I decided on either a Denon 1912 or 2112 receiver for $4-500ish. I really liked the look of the GEs and they seem to have received only good to great reviews from what I've read but there doesn't seem to be that many other choices for good looking, quality sounding, reasonably priced, non-HTIB wall speakers. Even though I liked the sound of the Klipschs compared to the GEs (it was only a 5 minute demo) I don't know if there are other aspects to consider like significant differences in specs or reliability, etc. that would make either a better choice. I plan to set it all up once and then not think about it for 5-10 years so I want to do it right.

    Hi ja0024,

if you have a big room to fill with sound, sensitivity is the first thing you should look at when perusing speakers' specs. That's the amount of decibels the speaker allegedly produces at a distance of 1 meter when fed with 1 watt from the amplifier. Klipsch is renowned for their highly sensitive speakers, though there doesn't seem to be a big difference in sensitivity between the two speakers you posted specs for. All else being equal, the Klipsch speaker exhibits a better frequency response (i.e. deeper bass) than the GE, which is consistent with the fact that it has bigger mid-bass drivers.

With that in mind, Klipsch speakers have a very peculiar signature sound which, as Disco said, you either love or hate. They don't match well with other brands, so if you go Klipsch I suggest you make it a full 5.0 Klipsch set up (the suggestion actually applies to any brand, but with Klipsch it's especially important; subwoofer can always be any brand). Another brand that makes sensitive speakers is JBL, you may want to audition them.

Last but not least, before you pull the trigger on an AVR, make sure it does have pre-outs. This way, you'll be able to add a power amplifier later on should you need more muscle to fill the room with sound. Btw, I've heard Klipsch and Denon don't make a good match. I've never auditioned them in combo so I can't comment on it personally, but maybe it's worth delving into before purchasing.

I really like klipsch for on walls or satellite applications, the horn loaded tweeter makes them sound bigger than they are. If you like the way they sound then don't worry about reviews you read of other speakers. Choosing speakers is truly up to you but I do recommend you listen to as many as possible in order to choose what truly is best for you. I have heard that AXIOM makes a damn fine on wall speaker too LINK KEF also makes some nice sounding on walls LINK. Now I am by no means saying any one of these are better than the other, just trying to give you some more options to choose from, like I said if I was going with on walls or sat's Klipsch would be in my top 2.

I have heard the same thing, and will agree from my own experience. I might be biased though as I have no love for Denon, nothing but bad experiences with their equipment.

When I tested my Klipsch the last time before I bought them I went through a Denon and a Yamaha. The Denon having more of a Dark tone to my ears. I wouldn't say it was bad, just not my preference.

Thanks for the input! I will try to demo the Axioms and KEFs if I can find them near me. The other avr I was considering is the Pioneer 1021 which most reviewers said was very close (or slightly superior in some areas) in performance and features to the Denon. Is that one generally a better fit for the Klipsch speakers?

The best fit is the one that sounds the best to your ears. But for me yes. My Pioneer Elite sounds great, and I feel MCACC is a better room correction software than Audyssey.

Yes. Pioneer and Klipsch are a good combo, I used to own it so I speak from experience. In general, you want a warm/mellow sounding AVR with Klipsch.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll get the Pioneer instead of the Denon and most likely just go with the Klipsch 5.0 setup since I checked and there aren't any KEF or Axiom dealers near me to demo.
