Thread: Just bought KEF Q300bl

Well - I did it. I just ordered some bookshelf speakers. Taking a flyer on these medium tier KEF speakers. Can't afford to switch center speaker yet - gonna have to live with my Klipsch for a while.

Here is a little info on them...

- A newly engineered Uni-Q driver (size dependent on model)
- Brand new bass drivers featuring rigid new aluminium cone technology
- 30% more cabinet space for increased bass performance
- Newly engineered, gold plated bi-wire terminals
- Bookshelf models include a wall mounting bracket hook
- Paper wood veneer available in three finishes

• Two way bass reflex bookshelf
• 6.5" aluminum Uni-Q driver
• 1" vented aluminum dome HF
• Frequency response: 42Hz - 40kHz
• Amp requirements: 15-120W
• Measurements: 14" x 8.3" x 11.9"





Actually, I'm pretty excited. Been doing a lot of research and these kept coming to the top of my list. If I don't like them - I'll just return them. I think I will like them. My plan is to mount them onto the wall and gain some space, then move my sub to the front of the room. Should make a big difference. Then, I'll sell my Klipsch towers and my Klipsch sub as a package I hope...

The thing is - regardless if my Klipsch are nice speakers, I can't take advantage of what they offer. Too big...not enough room. Blocking the mid bass driver is not cool. Also, has forced me to put sub in back of room. I want it in the front. This change will allow me to do that. I think it's a smart move for the time being.

Pretty heavy. 20 lbs each. Supposedly, they have brackets or at least bracket holes for mounting on the wall. I'll just wait till I get them to figure out what to get for that. Aren't any pictures of that part.

Hell yeah, Gos finally got some new speakers!! Way to go G man, I am sure you will love them. Doesn't matter if you have big speakers if you can not take advantage of them due to placement. I think this is a smart move since you can now accomplish proper sub placement and not have your mid ranges blocked out by the environment. Also I love that you have a front facing port to even further open up placement issues, since that was your biggest problem.

Yeah, speed is right. the Q300bl refers to black (bl). I got them at Amazon, and they were not discounted really. WEnt to KEF site and they had reduced to that same price. I saw some on Audiogon (used) but I wanted a clean purchase. If I don't instantly like them, or have issue with their size - I can easily return to Amazon. I wanted these over the older KEF model due to increased cabinet size on these. Figured that would give me a more rounded sound. I read some really great reviews of these on some forum sites. That's what finally sold me.

These bookshelf speakers are actually pretty hefty. I may have trouble getting them on the wall. Don't know. Won't know till I get them...

I agree speed and I love KEF speakers, they are very rich and full sounding, they do truly make a great sounding speaker at a good price!!!

Any ideas on stands Gos?

Unfortunately, my idea was to wall mount...to save space. I've now read another review where they say that these work better if allowed some space. So, that port on the front may not completely take care of my issues. If I could find a wall mount sturdy enough to still give me 1 foot distance from the wall...I'd do that. Probably asking too much. I didn't really want stands, cause that's my whole issue is space.

Gotcha. Yeah, common practice is a foot from all walls, depending. Hard thing is finding good stands too. I had some Sanus stands and all they did was rattle!

I know, it sucks to learn with your checkbook too. I ditched them and bought some Def Tech specific stands for more, and they work great. Also kinda where Im torn between bookshelfs and floorstanders. At least with floorstanders you dont have to figure out a stand

Well, I promise you this. If the KEF don't meet my expectations and solve some of my problems - they go back. I'm not spending that kind of money cause it grows on trees....
