    Default Floorstanding speaker placement

I am thinking of buying a pair of Jamo C809's to replace my 20 year old and worn-out Advent Legacy speakers. The Advents sounded best about 3 to 4 feet away from both the back and side walls. Does anyone know if the 809's are so particular? In my 13.5ft by 13.5ft room, I would like them as close to the back wall as possible and within 1 or 2 feet on the sides of a 50 inch plasma.

For some reason most Jamo speakers are recommended to be at least 3' from a back wall, why ??

I would rather not have anything sticking out that far from the wall or that far in front of the TV. I also like the Infinity C336. Can that be placed closer to the wall? The Advents only sounded great when they were away from rear and side walls.

The issue ain't about who's got yer back, it's about what's sticking out of it after they leave.

As to the OP... the reason for moving a speaker off the back wall is to improve bass quality, and imaging. Moving the speaker away from the walls allows you to hear the sound less influenced by back or side-wall reflections. It sounds like you found your way to the "rule of thirds" for speaker placement with your Advents. That says that most rooms will, most of the time, offer the best response when speakers are about a third of the room dimension away from the adjacent walls. In your room, that's four feet or so away from back and side walls.
