    Default Monitor Audio Silvers

I hope this won't read like fanboy hype, but with all the good speaker advice in here, I thought I throw in another option. I own a set of Monitor Audio Silvers, and I think they sound amazing.

I have neither the scientific knowledge nor articulate skills to explain in audiophile terms what makes these speakers sound the way they do. I can tell you that they work well for both HT and music. They are designed in the UK, and I would consider them a warm sounding speaker (which possibly compliments the slightly treble heavy characteristic of my Onkyo AVR noted by L2W). If I close my eyes, it is difficult for me to pinpoint the sound source; they seem to fill the room. My towers are RS8s, but RS6s sound almost as good for less coin. My ears hear a bit more midrange with the 8s. See sig for full set.

The build quality, fit and finish are absolutely first rate. They add to our family room as (IMO) high end furniture pieces with a relatively small footprint, but they put out huge sound. My final list came down to these, Paradigm, DefTech, Mirage, and Axioms (sorry I don't recall all the model numbers anymore). My top two choices were between the MAs and the Paradigms, and I was allowed to audition them each in my home with my own amp for a few days. I preferred the overall balance of the MAs, but I'm certain I would have been happy with either.

I will try to edit this with some pics later. L2W, if you have any experience with these, I am very interested in your take. If you don't particularly care for them, that's fine, you won't hurt my feelings.

I had the chance to listen to the RX6 just the other day, and these speakers were just flat out amazing. Probably one of the best sounds I've heard since I started looking at speakers lately. I am curious, how do they compare to the Paradigms?

    Thanks!

The following are the speakers I've listened to in the last 3 days.

    Klipsch VF36 & VF35, Klipsch F2 & F3, Polk RTI A7, and RX6 from Monitor Audio.

I bought a pair of RS6's as they were on sale. Still paid a bundle. But worth every penny.
Also bought the SLCR center speaker.
I looked at the 8's. Sweet but spendy.

I spent the majority of 2008 auditioning a ridiculous amount of speakers and ended up with the RS6's, RSLCR, and RSFX. "Warm" describes their sound perfectly and discovered that this warm sound is what I liked. Their revealing and accurate without any hint of harshness on the upper end. The RS-6's play pretty low and punchy in the lower end as well.

My wife's only requirement was that they looked good and she wasn't disappointed. Someday I would love to step up to the Gold series and if I ever win the lottery...the Platinum series.
