Thread: Outdoor speakers (cheapo)

I just purchased a pair of cheapo speakers for my deck outdoors. I've had a pair of Polks for 20 years and they've been going down last 5 years. Too much abuse - too much water. Uhm. I don't think they were outdoor speakers, but I had them protected. Anyway - I just wanted to replace them. I generally don't go the route of cheap with audio stuff, but this time.... thought I'd give these a try. I'll let you all know how they work out. I'm not expecting audio bliss, just a decent sound for background music, etc.

DUAL INDOOR/OUTDOOR

Hey GOS I have been thinking about getting these speakers too. I was wanting something cheap as well, I just don't see the point in dropping a couple hundred on out door speakers when the money could go in my theater room. I think I'll go ahead and just pull the trigger, for $30 I don't think you can really go wrong.

Nope, I don't think you can go wrong. That's what I thought. I'll get mine on Monday....

Sounds tempting. Maybe get these and a wireless speaker hook up and hook them to the B connections on my Onkyo.

that's exactly what I'm doing. I have some older bookshelf JBL's hooked up to A, and these will be hooked up to B.

I really didn't like the limited bass in these speakers, I had them on my hot-tub deck...I'm now using some speakers that brenner gave me....much better....

Yeah, I know they have limited bass. I heard that. I'm considering running a Polk sub in the garage to make up the difference. someday...

So, I have the speakers mounted now. Yes, they are very thin sounding. I expected that. Bass? Very little for the most part. I mean, they do what I wanted, which is to provide some sound out on the deck. They were only $31 and very much worth that little price. The build quality and appearance is very nice actually. They look very professional mounted on the garage - the mounting brackets were included. Super easy to hang. Even the little DUAL logo can be spun around in case you mount them on their sides. A nice touch for $31.

So - if you want these for quality sound at a cheap price...don't get them. The sound is not what I would call quality. If you currently do not have outdoor speakers and just want a quick fix for an upcoming party or something. Go for it. You cannot go wrong for $31. Then, wait till a better pair go on sale and replace them.

lol - yes, that's what prompted me to put this post out. I think $129 is probably a great price for those speakers.

Well, I kinda thought, maybe I should have waited and not bought the Duals and bought these instead. I've spent a bit of money lately on blu-rays, those speakers, speaker wire. I need to calm down and breath for a bit.

I have the klipsch lightspeaker system in my kitchen already..so since the back patio is nearby, the klipsch audiorock made sense for me. The system is not really cheap though...Lightspeakers are 250 a pop and the audiorock is 200. All wireless and the rock is self powered with a rechargeable battery so it's kinda cool. Neighbors are too close for something loud.
