Thread: Upgrade from Definite Technoloy ProCenter 1000 to 2000??

Any of you audio guys have any input. When I first bought this set, I was a little unaware how important the center is, and Im wondering if the increased driver size, would add to my 3.1 system. The 1000, according to them, matches the ProMonitor 1000's I have, but it does have smaller drivers.

I have the C/L/R 2500 and I'm very happy with its performance. As far as I'm concerned, I don't think I will be needing to upgrade the center channel for a long time. Have you listen to their new line of high dispersion series center channel yet, CS-8060HD and CS-8040HD? I would give them a fair shake before making the final decision.

With a center channel that has a built in powered sub such as the Def Tech 8060, you would set your center channel on your AVR to fullrange correct? Just change your AVR center channel setting to large, correct?

Elwaylite, the Pro Center 2000 is the best match for your Pro Cinema 1000 L/R and if you want to upgrade the C to get more presence that's the first place to go. What's making you want to upgrade the centre? Is thin-sounding or indistinct?

Barney's front three are amazing but much larger than yours and, yes, if you use a centre with an amplified bass driver, I would set it to large.

That's correct. Although for 5.1 surround sound, the content maker doesn't put too much emphasis on bass into the center channel. However, there is a dedicated subwoofer RCA jack in the back if you want the discrete LFE channel connected to it.

To be honest, it hangs in there quite well, especially on the last two flicks (Inception and The Expendables). I was more just hunting, but I really don't see another $350 as a worthy upgrade, because it sounds good now. My biggest problem was the aftermarket stands. When I'd crank the sound to try and get the center right for vocals, the stands would rattle. Now that I have the L/R on Def Tech stands, I run the Denon to about -8 for movies, and it sounds freakin awesome.

I'd prob be better to get a nicer sub as my next upgrade. This Sub-12 rocks, but I know it's prob mediocre compared to the higher end standards.

Im a sucker. Did some more reading on centers, and talked to their folks a little more. Im gonna try the 2000 to see if it'll give me a larger sound in the middle.

Thanks. The midrange/woofer's on my center are 5.25 in size.

I saved a little on budget when I bought the setup, but I know think the bigger center will do me a little more justice. Just had to ponder before dropping $350.

If it makes you feel any better, my center from Amazon is $500.

New toy arrives today. I remember back when I had a polk monitor system, and upgraded from the small (very small actually) center to the big boy, hoping the same result happens here. Gonna be fun making room for it...
