NEW SURROUNDS!!!

This is the best day of my life....lmao! The wife bought new curtains for the family room and asked me to put them up. The new curtains have a particular rod that is bigger than the last and as a result, it will impact my surround speakers. She also asked me if I'd paint the room before hanging the rods. I commented that I didn't want to paint this weekend cause that opens up a can of worms with my surrounds, which are mounted on the ceiling. Long story short - my surrounds are pretty damn old and the mounting device, which is part of the back of the speakers are worn out and they simply sag down and will rub on her curtains....

She said, well start looking for new speakers. She said...will they be $1000? hahahahahahaha! I said, nah - more like $500-600. She said...START LOOKING!

DUDE...... I'm all over this like white on rice. As many of you know, I have all Klipsch, except my surrounds are Polk. I'm sure you will all tell me to stick with Klipsch...but note my current Klipsch have a little age on them.

Thoughts, comments?

Surrounds matching isn't anywhere near as critical as it is with the fronts. With that being said, some new Klipsch would keep the sound at the same brightness level so I would recommend those. Even though your front array is older, new Klipsch surrounds should match quite well.

Thanks Tony - I only need surrounds. My fronts and center flat out rock. I guess I was curious how to match surrounds with aging speakers....THAT ROCK.

Yes, I've been looking at those. I'm not sure if I have room for something that "tall". I need to do some measuring for sure.

Those would cost $800 for a pair. The following would work with his present speakers just fine - http://www.overstock.com/Electronics...6/product.html Remember, these are only surrounds meant to fill in ambiance...

I think what most forums would prefer is if the link is hidden. Here is how to do it:

1. Go to the webpage you want to link.
2. copy the link
3. Go to forum thread and maybe type the word LINK. You can even bold face the word LINK if you like to draw attention to it.
4. Make sure the word LINK is hi-lited.
5. Click the link button icon which should be above your post.
6. Paste the link you copied earlier.

That's how I do it.

You need to click on the globe with the chain on it when posting then a box will pop up for you to put the address in. Otherwise it lists the http:// twice.

Looked at those too. Yes, what I'm debating is whether to simply get some "adequate" Klipsch surrounds for cheap, and save up my money knowing I will eventually replace the whole system. Realistically, I will not have the money to replace everything for a couple years. But, when I do - I will spend a decent amount of money...cause I'm a speaker nut.

TBH i really don't know jack about speakers, other than the basic stuff. i usually try to buy the whole set just to keep it simple. but i am sure people with more knowledge can mix and match to get awesome sound.

Well that's better than being a wing nut...

I would say go for the inexpensive surrounds for now and enjoy them until it is time to replace the entire speaker system, but that's just me.

Yeah. I'm wondering how much difference I will notice if I get some new Klipsch surrounds vs. the OLD Polks I'm using. Those polks were never really intended for surround - so I'm guessing even with cheaper Klipsch, it will be pretty dramatic. You think??
